First of all let’s start off by discussing what the Academy of General Dentistry is. The AGD is an association made up of almost 40,000 general dentists that includes dentists from the United States and Canada. If was founded in 1952 and is the second largest dental association in the United States. It’s the only association that represents exclusively the needs and interests of general dentists.
What is a General Dentist?
A general dentist is the primary dental care provider for patients no matter their age. They provide overall oral health care. A general dentist manages the diagnosis, treatment, and overall coordination of services with your dental needs. If you need a dental procedure performed that requires a specialist, then your general dentist will work with other dentists to help you get that done.
Your Dentist’s Membership in the AGD Benefits You
A dentist that is a member of the AGD is committed to continuing education to help him or her stay up-to-date on the latest equipment and procedures. Active AGD members agree to complete 75 hours of CE every three years. In addition to being a member of the AGD, there are different levels within the association. For example, fellowship. To earn a Fellowship Award in the Academy of General Dentistry a dentist would need to complete at least 500 CE credit hours, pass a comprehensive exam, and have been an AGD member for three continuous years.
There is also Mastership level in the AGD. To get this award a dentist would first need to be a Fellow in the AGD. Then he or she would need to earn an additional 600 approved CE credits, meeting minimum requirements in certain dental disciplines, of which 400 hours are hands-on courses.
Both Dr. Mulvany and Dr. Novelen are members and Fellows of the AGD. If you live in the Englewood Colorado area and would like to set up an appointment, please give us a call at 303-781-0624, or request an appointment online.
